Guinness World Records said that 8 foot 1 inch (2.47 meter) Sultan Kosen, from the town of Mardin in eastern Turkey, is now officially the tallest man walking the planet.
Recently I read an article on Yahoo on the world’s new tallest guy Sultan Kosen from Turkey. What struck me about the story wasn’t his height, but just his simple wishes to date girls and to eventually marry one. The guy said he never had a girlfriend, but he hoped his new fame will help him find dates.
Reading the story just made me realize we are all human and we all want the similar things in life. No matter where we are in the world, men are simple creatures. We all want to date the opposite sex (unless you are guy of course). I mean you gotta read what he said:
“Up until now it’s been really difficult to find a girlfriend. I’ve never had one, they were usually scared of me. …Hopefully now that I’m famous I’ll be able to meet lots of girls. I’d like to get married.”
Come on! You gotta give the guy some props. Most of us guys have not had it as difficult as him. We always were able to date one way or another. What if you were in his shoes? 27 years old and not being able to date?
So maybe we can help get the word out and help him get a girlfriend. If you know anyone in Turkey, please pass this forward. Let’s help a brother out.

Go CSU Rams
For a few months now, I have been thinking of the need to have or the value of having an online community for the Colorado State University (CSU) alumni. Maybe we will call it something like Rams for Life. In any case, I want to know YOUR thoughts on this.
The idea is essentially to allow for people to post jobs, find jobs, share ideas, and create a medium to for alumni of CSU to connect and to encourage each other. I think there are many different platforms out there, but I don’t think there is one that REALLY DOES THIS to the full extent.
Below is a copy of an email that I sent to some of my friends who studied at CSU. Please take a look and share your ideas with us.

On a sunny morning on Tuesday, May 5th 2009, I noticed some green leaves on trees for the first time this year. Finally, Ulaanbaatar is seeing vegetation and green for the first time since fall. Winter is usually filled with white, brown, and grey colors. And, early part of spring is usually filled with brown, the color of dirt. Needless to say dirt is everywhere
…
Then on Saturday May 9th, it is snowing…
The dust storms this year have been few and far between. Thank you the gods of weather!
…
NOTE: This was in my draft folder for at least four months now. I have to publish it now. Otherwise, I should just delete it. If you are interested, I will post more information next Spring. Cheers!
I ran across this comment while reading the news about the Allen Iverson going to Memphis Grizzlies. It was posted by numba333. I guess this answers any questions whether AI will fit into the Memphis Grizzlies system and whether this revives his career, etc. hehe
Without further due, here is the comment:
Mayo dribbles up the court, looking for his shot…..STOLEN by Allen Iverson. What the heck? Mayo is guarding AI. Iverson looking for his shot. Can’t get it off. Randolph screaming for the ball. STRIPPED by Gay!!!! Gay goes up for the shot. BLOCKED by Randolph. Randolph for layup, misses, rebound, misses, rebound, misses, rebound, misses, rebound….Mayo leaps takes the ball away, dribbles it out, doubleteamed by Gay and AI. Nets just standing around watching in disbelief.
Marc Gasol is drinking a Gatorade…..this is embarassing……
While talking to a friend today, I visited Google Maps, a function within Google that I used to use back when I was in US daily. I had stopped using it in Mongolia because there really is not much to show for… But guess what I found?!
Mongolia IS on the Map!

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia map on Google
I could not believe it, but I am very happy about this. Finding places is always a pain, especially for tourists, foreigners, and Mongolians like me who don’t always know where everything is located. The thing is… in Mongolia, people don’t use street names. No one knows street names here. Everyone goes by places… as in where something is located next to some place that people know. Often, those places don’t even exist anymore, but the name remained.
In any case, the Google Maps has the names of places on the map. How cool is that?

“It’s all about people and relationships”
It’s not just “who you know” or “who knows you”. It’s more like “who is a fan of you”. The more people are excited about you, believe in you, and genuinely want to help you succeed, the more likely you are going to succeed. And, you can foster this by hanging around with the right people, being helpful and respectful to others, and just simply adding more value to other people’s lives.
The above is just a summary of some of the leading or my personal favorite thoughts in the same subject matter:
- Zig Ziglar always says that “you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” As the years pass, I feel that I am finally starting to really understand this concept, but I would say that I probably do still have some ways to go to fully understand and to live this concept day in and day out.
- My friend and mentor David Nemelka who I am very thankful to have met said to me once “the only way to be really successful in this world is to add enough value in other people’s lives.”
- “People do business with people.” Your customers do not really care about your products or services. They are looking to fill their needs. And, they would rather do this with someone they like.
- A wise internet marketer (I don’t exactly recall who) also said that “if you had 1000 passionate fans, you would be wildly successful no matter what you were doing”
Lately, my mission has been to meet with people and to learn more about how I can add value to other people’s lives.
I think the concept that “it’s the giver who gets the most” applies here. People who give to others actually feel better and live more happily, but they also get back more in return and not necessarily from the people they have helped. Dacher Keltner talked about this on the DishyMix show with Susan Bratton. It is a great two-podcast series you should most definitely listen!
So, this is my mantra for what is remaining of this month (a few hours of August) and probably the next month or two. Please share with me your thoughts and ideas on this. Thanks!

ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA – Starting tonight at 24:00 clock, Peace Avenue will be closed in portions for construction from West 4-way intersection (baruun durvun zam) to East 4-way intersection (zuun durvun zam). The purpose of the construction project is to expand Peace Avenue and to add underground pedestrian crossing in an area near a hospital named “Iontsei”.
The first part of the project will involve section of Peace Avenue from West 4-way to State Department store and will take roughly 15 days to complete. The section of the road from Mongolian State University of Education to the Wrestlers Palace is expected to take 28 days to complete.
FYI: Peace Avenue is the main road connecting Ulaanbaatar and is the longest stretch of road in the city. It runs West to East.

To NY Times: On August 3, 2009, you published a story about Genghis Khan’s 131-foot statue in Mongolia. The story was written by a journalist named Dan Levin and was well written overall. The only real issue is that your journalist had the audacity to end his post with something along the lines of Genghis Khan and Hitler being the same thing!!
This is totally unacceptable.
First, Chinggis Khaan, the correct spelling for Genghis Khan, is Mongolia’s beloved hero and the founding father of our nation. He is beloved and respected above anything else in Mongolia. To us, he is like Abraham Lincoln, God, and Chuck Norris put together. All jokes aside, your journalist and your post is no laughing matter.
This is how your post ended:
“Mongolian tradition respects our grand ancestors’ names,” she said. “To really honor him, it’s much better to use his name on only premium merchandise.”
Other Mongolians skew a bit more toward realpolitik in their devotion to Genghis Khan, even if they are happy to drink to his memory.
“He was a cruel man but he led our country to greatness,” said Toguldur Munkochir, 25, a bank teller unwinding at the Chinggis Khaan bar later that night. “If you look at Lincoln, Hitler and Julius Caesar, it’s kind of the same thing.”
99.99999% of Mongolians do not feel the same way as this guy “Toguldur”. Chinggis Khaan is NOT the same thing as Hitler.
