“It’s all about people and relationships”
It’s not just “who you know” or “who knows you”. It’s more like “who is a fan of you”. The more people are excited about you, believe in you, and genuinely want to help you succeed, the more likely you are going to succeed. And, you can foster this by hanging around with the right people, being helpful and respectful to others, and just simply adding more value to other people’s lives.
The above is just a summary of some of the leading or my personal favorite thoughts in the same subject matter:
- Zig Ziglar always says that “you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” As the years pass, I feel that I am finally starting to really understand this concept, but I would say that I probably do still have some ways to go to fully understand and to live this concept day in and day out.
- My friend and mentor David Nemelka who I am very thankful to have met said to me once “the only way to be really successful in this world is to add enough value in other people’s lives.”
- “People do business with people.” Your customers do not really care about your products or services. They are looking to fill their needs. And, they would rather do this with someone they like.
- A wise internet marketer (I don’t exactly recall who) also said that “if you had 1000 passionate fans, you would be wildly successful no matter what you were doing”
Lately, my mission has been to meet with people and to learn more about how I can add value to other people’s lives.
I think the concept that “it’s the giver who gets the most” applies here. People who give to others actually feel better and live more happily, but they also get back more in return and not necessarily from the people they have helped. Dacher Keltner talked about this on the DishyMix show with Susan Bratton. It is a great two-podcast series you should most definitely listen!
So, this is my mantra for what is remaining of this month (a few hours of August) and probably the next month or two. Please share with me your thoughts and ideas on this. Thanks!
